As someone said, 'The english speaking world is divided into two, those who have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and those who are going to read them.'
And for years I had belonged to the unfortunate category (whose existence was ignored by whoever said the above) who had read The Hobbit, but not the sequel.. so I set out to set that right!
